Champion Schools San Tan Valley
We began our school in 1999 with the guidance of Stanford University’s Accelerated Schools Project. The idea that school communities can dramatically improve the success of by building powerful learning environments is at the heart of our academic program. Our approach combines ACCELERATED CURRICULUM, to produce a creative school organization to increase the progress of ALL students. Students experience diverse instructional techniques and a variety of instructional staff in multiple subject areas.
In our dynamic classroom environments, students and teachers are encouraged to think creatively and explore their interests with the goal of achieving high academic standards. These standards apply to ALL students, regardless of their experiential background, capabilities or developmental learning differences. We seek out, acknowledge and build on every student’s natural curiosity, to construct knowledge through exploration and discovery and see connections between school activities and their lives outside the classroom. All of these experiences require imaginative thinking, complex reasoning and problem-solving skills. The entire curriculum is enriched and emphasizes language development in all subjects.
To ensure the level of commitment needed to accomplish our goals, students, parents and teachers agree to support specific responsibilities that they each have in the learning process. These contracts support a high level of attendance, punctuality and completion of home assignments. These aspects of school life make a huge difference in student achievement which is always our highest priority. Parents are also an important part of supporting students’ opportunities to experience relevant activities as an enhancement of the basic curriculum through field trips and study tours.
For the past twenty years we have operated successful charter schools. During that time, we began to see the advantages of having a rigorous sports program available for students during the school day. We were introduced to Athletes Performance and added daily conditioning to our program. The idea of schools focusing on athletics is a natural partnership. Commitment to practicing, being strategic, determined and hard-working are essential qualities to competing successfully both academically and athletically.
Champion Schools make athletic training an integral part of a longer school day. Sports activities confined to after school hours can be a hardship for student-athletes and their families. Additionally, the cost of private professional athletic training means many parents cannot afford to give their children a competitive advantage. Champion Schools ‘levels the playing field’ giving ALL students an athletic enrichment regardless of their resources.
Champion Schools builds a strong culture that supports students in making significant academic gains and excelling in athletics: an unbeatable formula for success.
